It's that time of year again -- time to write the annual Christmas
letter. I just wrote ours. This is said in jest -- but just once,
wouldn't you like to receive one that says, "Our grandson flunked
math or Sandy has warts or Brenda ran off with a gypsy" or
something normal instead of the usual brag letter? Just kidding,
sort of -- but keep it short.

Speaking of short ones, here's a good verse from the little book of 3
John to include in your Christmas greeting -- vs. 2 (nlt), "Dear
friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go
well with you, even as your soul is getting along well." Isn't that a
lot better than just saying "Have a cool Yule y'all?"

Here we are, approaching Thanksgiving and possibly too wrapped
up in the frenzy of this season to concentrate on Thanks-living. It
happens every year, if we let it -- we get wrapped tighter than a $3
baseball and miss the real joy that this season should bring. The
commercialization of our Lord's birth has too many of us in its
grip.

How about it, let's unwind a bit, be more laid back, enjoy
Christmas for a change and let others help Walmart's profit
statement. Instead of buy, buy, buy, say bye, bye, bye to the profit
mongers and make something for a loved one or send something to
Samaritan's Purse in their name. Give them something of you
instead of something that will be in next year's garage sale.
Just a country boy's thought.
