What Would We Say?

Jesus prayed before He died
for us who believe,
that we would be one in Him
and live in unity.

He prayed that we would
be one in His name.
Through this love the
world would know He came.

Yet we seem to have
difficulty finding a way.
If Jesus ever asked us why,
what would we say?

Would we say that our
denomination was complete.
We didn’t need the other parts,
His hands and His feet.

Or would we say there were
more important things to do,
and our own members, we just
did not want to lose.

Would we say our shepherds
kept us all apart,
to pray together in unity
just never did start.

Or would we say we had to
hold on to the truth,
and couldn’t come together
to just worship you.

Would it have been too difficult
and took too much time,
to bring us all together and
keep everything in line.

Yet Jesus prayed that all of
us would live in unity.
If we are always kept apart,
how can this be?

In keeping our own agenda
did we simply forget,
what is important to Jesus
has not been done yet?
