I’ll Never Leave You

Based on Hebrews 13:5


Sometimes life will hurt you,
Sometimes life will make you cry.
Sometimes life will hurt you,
And make you want to lay down and die.

But though it hurts;
And your heart aches day by day;
God promised to be with you
Every step of the way!

My friend, for you I bring this word:
Though it feels like you are all alone,
God says: “I’ll never leave you nor forsake you…”
Your loneliness is real but you are never alone.


I wrote the 1st stanza of the above piece (intending on it being a song) to encourage a group of youth I shared with in November 2009. It was originally called ‘It Hurts…’ It was incomplete so I didn’t sing it but I gave it to one of their leaders so they could work on it together as a project. I met one of the youth from that assembly on Friday 24th August 2012 and got chatting about another song I taught them: “Ask, Seek & Knock”. It reminded me of the incomplete song I had left with them to complete as and when they are inspired to do so. It was the highlighted part of the above piece. I added a further two stanzas sometime after that but never got around to sharing it. I found it as I was going through some old files yesterday and it came back to encourage me. I would love to see what those young people made of that stanza. May it encourage you today as you hear your Saviour saying, “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.”

We all go through struggles at various intervals of our lives. As you go through, I pray that it will encourage you too. If you have just overcome an obstacle in your life then join me in sharing to let others know that the struggles won’t be forever and that God is with them. If God is in the vessel we can surely smile at the storm and say ‘This too shall pass.” God bless you my dear friends and stay focused.

“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” --Hebrews 13:5-6--
