For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed; neither hid, that will not be known.
Luke 12:2 (NIV)
On June 21, 2004, the longest day of the year, I was sitting before the computer listening to Handel’s oratorio “the Messiah” as conducted by the late Leonard Bernstein—lovely, inspiring pieces of this Baroque work, such as “Every Valley”, “Comfort Ye, My People” and “The Trumpet Shall Sound” are my favorite sections. There are lawns to be mowed, trash to be emptied and floor to be mopped.
Am I wasting my time? Just a few years ago, guilt would have forced me to wait until all of my work was done. But it’s a funny thing. Since I have taking some time each day to listen to the inspiration of classical music, I have been able to accomplish more during the course of the day particularly when it comes to my writing efforts.
How could this be? I believe it is because listening to the more than 500 years of classical music helps me put life in perspective. I have found the difference between music, noise and sounds is the regularity, rhythmic patterns and order, particularly with classical music that invigorates me. Taking roughly 30 minutes to sit with eyes closed and with my mind’s eye sees the musical notes or orchestra play in a synchronized manner enables me to accomplish work in a smoother, more orderly manner.
If your would like to try it, sit or lie down with your eyes closed, center your mind and heart on Jesus Christ, and then just let yourself flow with the classical music—particularly Handel’s—Messiah; Verdi’s—Requiem; Dvorak’s—“Largo” (2nd Movement) from Symphony No. 9 (New World) or Grofe’s—“On The Trail” from the Grand Canyon Suite. I think you will be surprised to how harmonious the rest of your day will be for your!
Prayer: Loving Father, let my life be like a musical note in Your eternal song that will spread Your unconditional love and beauty to all humankind.
Thought for the Day: Let the love of God envelop your day.
