Marriage

My husband and I have been very happily married for 16 years now. The most exciting day after the day I accepted Christ as my Saviour was the day Jim and I stood before our families and pledge our lives to each other and to Christ.

I was puzzled when I read the Scriptures where Jesus said there was no marriage or giving in marriage in heaven. I feared that my relationship with my husband would end. I was upset to think I would somehow loss the most important relationship I have here, and not be connected to my husband in heaven.

I knew that we'd recognize our families, our friends, fellow church members. What of the most important earthly relationship that makes a man and woman one flesh?

Then my godly husband explained the anomally to me. We will not have husbands and wives in the earthly sense in heaven because the Body of Christ, the Church, is the bride of the Glorious Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our relationships here are just a dim reflection of a much more important one: that of Christ and the Church, the Body of Believers He purchased with His Life.

Yes, our marriage here is wonderful. But the marriage of Christ and the Church is the model for all earthly marriages. He died for us. He gave His everything to pay for our sins. We should thank Him that we are able to build relationships here that are symbols of that final Marriage in Heaven.
