DEALING WITH YOUR PAST

Your past is important but not as important as your future! The past is not completely irrelevant because it offers vital lessons you must not ignore if you want your future to be interesting and fulfilled. For those who fail to learn from the past, history is bound to repeat itself, it’s only a matter of time! To live an exciting and fulfilled life therefore, you must never fail to learn relevant lessons from the past, however you are not permitted to carry the past as a burden if you must make progress in life.

One reality about life is that you can’t deny your past, and you should never attempt to. It is impossible for you to deny the fact that you were a victim of certain horrible occurrences and regrettable errors in the past. It is important you accept the past since there’s nothing you can do to change it, but you should never allow it to drag you back. One important way to deal with your past is to straighten it out with God in genuine repentance. God is the only one that will never throw us away when we come to Him in genuine repentance it does not matter how terrible our lives have being. Like the prodigal son who didn’t deserve mercy, was excitedly welcome into his father’s open and loving arms, God is tenderly calling everyone with dirty pasts to obtain mercy and forgiveness of sin. If you allow God to remove guilt for your past misdeeds from off your neck, nobody has the right to dig up your past or write you off!

Another important point to note in dealing with the past is that you must never pretend that people will forget your pasts. It’s practically impossible for people around to wipe off their memories of your ugly pasts, but this should never be a cause for worry or serious concern if you had already taken time to properly straightened things out with God and with men where necessary. In fact, it is most likely that you are going to always have some people who, may be out of jealousy, envy or an attempt to slow you down, just take delight in reminding you of your dirty pasts thereby opening up the wound that was supposed to have been healed. When faced with situation like this, you need not resent or get mad at them, simply ignore them and go ahead with your life since your heart has been freed from burdens of guilt. What lies ahead of you is far more important and relevant than what you’ve left behind!

God is still in the business of helping people deal with their ugly pasts only if they will give Him a chance. As a loving father who does not desire that any of his children end in destruction, God is interested in offering brand new beginnings to those who will turn to Him in genuine repentance. We will not do ourselves any good in life and eternity if we sweep our dirty pasts under the carpets and pretend all is well; it must be stated emphatically that those who fail to straighten out and properly deal with their pasts now are bound to be hunted by the past both in life and eternity! It’s only when you have allowed God to deal with your past completely that you can bury it and it will remain buried! Never allow your past to rubbish your glorious future, face the shame, don’t run away from the strokes of reproaches that may come now, let God deal with your past and give you a fresh start, a brand new beginning. Amen.

Shalom.
