The practice of raising children to learn to walk in prescribed paths has been part of civilization around the world for thousands of years. Nutrition, shelter, instruction has primarily been the responsibility of the parents and as civilizations decay, the state. Plato wrote: "No man should bring children into the world who is unwilling to persevere to the end in their nature and education."

Most societies of note have been and are patriarchal, meaning the father is held accountable for the welfare of the children. He is permitted to delegate some aspects of nurturing to the mother. Decaying societies are marked by fathers abandoning the children emotionally, spiritually and economically or all three. The cost to our future is incalculable.

Last week the local Rotary Club was addressed by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Stephen David who said, "Children make up 25 percent of the state’s population, but 100 percent of our future." The importance of children and the proper care of them should not be treated lightly by absentee fathers. Children are to be whole in mind, spirit and body, the primary reason for God placing them in families and for Jesus teaching His disciples to "suffer the little children to come unto me." Mark 10:14.

2Timothy 3:15 "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."
