Following Christ Through Struggles

Feelings, they may come and go,
but they can deceive me so.
I know I need to make a choice
To stop and listen for God’s voice.

Feelings tell me God isn't there,
or that He just doesn't care,
so I ask, “What did Jesus do
when He was tempted like me and you?”

While in the desert for forty days
Jesus took time to fast and pray.
He used Scripture, the two-edged sword
and said it is written in God’s Word.

While in the Garden of Gethsemane
He knew He would die for you and me.
He prayed, knowing that He was God’s Son,
Not my will Father, but yours be done.

Disciples abandoned Jesus on the cross,
feelings told them all was lost.
Like them, when things become too tough
I fall away when the road gets rough.

Yet Jesus did not abandon them,
He appeared after He rose again.
He said “My peace I give to you”.
Just as He says to me and you.

When feelings cause me to go astray,
I need to take some time to pray.
In order to get through life’s battles,
I need to follow Jesus' examples.

I will live for Jesus Christ, my Lord
who I praise, worship and bow before,
as I pray for the power of the Holy Spirit,
to receive His grace and walk in it.

I will continue to run and finish the race,
it’s time for me to pick up the pace.
It’s not I who live, but Christ in me
And I know my God has the victory.
