Frustration! Anxiety! Turmoil! And that was just this morning. Have you ever had one of those days where just coping was a major battle? There’s an antidote to this kind of stress, God’s peace. The word peace actually means “set at one again.” In this case it’s your mind and removing the confusion. We are in a daily battle to keep our wits about us and not let the enemy tear us apart. James 4:7 tell us to submit ourselves to God and the devil will flee, but verse eight tells us why the battle is so difficult. It’s because we’re being double-minded.

To be “set at one again” is to become single-minded and requires us to not be lured by the thoughts of the world, such as anger or envy; which will combat the love of God in us. Col. 3:14 says that putting on love gives us unity with one another. Love also gives us unity in our own minds as Eph 4:3 tells us that the bond of peace will keep us in unity. My favorite scripture concerning this is Psalm 133 which says that walking in unity brings God’s blessings.

The desire for peace must begin with you having peace with God first by confessing your sin and repenting, receiving Jesus as Lord. Then it’s your peace of mind, or the unity of your thoughts for the things of God, as opposed to the hateful thoughts of the world. When you allow the Holy Spirit to conform your mind to the likeness of Christ, you’ll also find the peace that passes all understanding (Phil. 4:7) with your family, friends, co-workers, and everyone else too. Unity with God, unity in your own mind, and unity with others. Finally, you’ve got God’s peace. Hang on to it!
