Whether you recognize it or not, God loves you unconditionally because He is the Father of forgiveness. If Jesus told Peter to forgive 77 times in Matthew 18, as opposed to a mere seven, then how much more does God love and forgive you? The question isn’t how much God loves you, it’s how much do you love Him? We’ve all had someone express their love to us through mere words and only take them seriously to a certain point until we see some action. How serious do you want God to take your Christian walk? Have you shown Him how much you love Him?

First John chapter two says “if we claim to know God and don’t obey Him, we’re lying and the truth isn’t in our hearts.” We truly love God only when we obey Him as we should, then we know we belong to Him. Jesus says in Matthew 7:22 “Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your Name, and in Your Name drive out demons and perform many miracles? Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me you evildoers.” Have you shown the Lord you love Him through your obedience?

Your works won’t make God love you any more than He already does, but they do prove how much you love Him in light of the fact that your love is conditional because you’re only human. Verse three of 2nd John says that when we obey God, we can be sure we know Him. But more importantly God can be sure you love Him and take your walk of faith seriously because the proof indeed is in the pudding. If we say we’re His, we must follow Christ’s example. For your obedience to God is a shining star that twinkles in the heavenly eye of your creator taking your love for Him to new heights. Because He first loved you, you also can love.
