Psalm 5


Fears arise in mighty swells
Dashing hopes and dreams
With one well-directed icy blast
Of water and wave
Sent from the Enemy's hand.

My mind is directed to a time
When life had joy and purpose;
The pleasure of worshipping You
Meant the high praises of God were
Flowing free and easy from spirit and soul.

Now, the carefree days
Have long since passed.
Sadness and anxiety
Have hemmed me in on every side;
No one knowing of the pain
And isolation that consumes me
And drives me deeper within
My bruised and battered soul.

In these moments of grief and pain,
I cling to the vine,
The Source of all faith and hope;
To shreds of near-forgotten dreams
And plans of years gone by;
Promises spoken long ago
Of healing and restoration
Of mind, soul, and body.

From that lonely place
I hear Your voice calling me;
Speaking so softly, tenderly...
Drawing me closer and nearer to Your side.

I struggle against the chains
That bind my soul.
Fearing the intimacy
Of knowing You,
And being truly known;
Of trusting and being unafraid;
Of just being
Alive, happy, and free.
