Precious Lord,
Help me to rest patiently
In Your arms of love;
Like a child in the arms of a parent,
Dearly loved and secure,
Let me find refuge
Beneath the shadow
Of Your wings.

So often I stray from Your embrace
To the arms of another.
This idolatrous heart
Is drawn to things
Which lead me far from You
On wings of imagination,
And desire.

Covetousness and the desire
For a life and things beyond my grasp,
Have lead me on a quest
To follow after the gods
Of "I Want" and "I Need."
Insatiable to the core,
They are the gods
Of More and More;
Never satisfied,
Always searching,
Demanding restitution and equity
In the acquisition
Of "things,"
And for human companionship.

I am acquainted with many
Who have an abundance of resources
And financial possibilities.
Apparently lacking nothing,
They possess prosperity
And enjoy life to the fullest.

Unable to suppress
These feelings of greed,
I see myself as lacking in some way;
Wanting the security found
In having a home and a family,
Having someone to love and care for,
To be loved in return,
And to share life's experiences with.

But this is not my reality.
Today does not
Offer these gifts to me
With an open hand.
Were I to take them
In willful disobedience,
Would my heart be blameless?
What advantage is there in wanting
That which the Lord
Has not given freely from His hand?
Will this longing be satisfied
And this heart fulfilled
In the blessing of another?

I long to repent of this sinful desire.
I feel the twinges of conviction
From my guilt gnawing away at me,
And yet, I am unable to
Feel that I am truly repentant at heart
For my sin.

Help me Lord
To wait patiently and gratefully
For what You have for me;
Your will and plans for my life
Are good, perfect, and always on time….
For these things are truly mine.
Continue to search my heart
And show me when I am
Walking away from Your lighted path
And best for my life.
May I be content with Your provision
Now and forever.
