Fuller Brush, Bibles and Billy 3-1-12

I noted an article the other day about the famous Fuller Brush Company filing for bankruptcy. I recalled an interesting bit about a famous, perhaps the most famous man who had worked for Fuller Brush as a door to door cold call salesman.

Actually a number of men and women went on to fame after Fuller. J.D. Salinger of Catcher In The Rye fame, Paul Newman, Arthur Godfrey, Joe DiMaggio among them. The one I recalled became the top salesman in North Carolina. He was a preacher boy working his way through college. William Franklin Graham is known affectionately as Billy by millions and not so affectionately by other millions as 'him.' The last given as a reminder that no matter how good you are at whatever you do you can't please everybody. Just ask the Yankee Clipper.

As we live life under the tutelage of Christ, the Word and a few well intentioned mentors, we must learn that no matter what position we take on any issue, the approval of men or a body of men is not why we are living. We must have the courage to get the best help we can, but never depart from the plain sense of a given passage and simply press on as we are led by the Lord Jesus. Psalms 32:8 "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye."
