A Knock em Dead Outside 2-27-12

I came up to age twenty as a heathen. At twenty Christ rescued me from the penalty of sin and welcomed me into the family. Since then He through various means has been rescuing me from myself. Both aspects of this salvation are miraculous.


For most of my Christian life I have looked the part as defined by several sects of Christianity manuals. I take little comfort in this as Saul appeared to be the grandest human specimen in all Israel.


While I labored in the Appalachian Mountains I heard a saying that has stuck with me for over forty years: "We tend to compare our insides with other peoples outside." Many is the day I appeared to really "have it all together" when inside I was coming apart at the seams. I was certain that many of my acquaintance really had it together; I mean they really looked the part. I was comparing my true inside to their visible outside, and thus felt inferior. The only thing worse than comparing our true inside to the outside of others is to match up outside without considering the inside.


The ultimate test is an honest comparison of myself to Christ Himself. I then know He is still working on me. I don't recall ever hearing Him say, "Larry, that's a knock em dead suit and tie." He always says something like, "Larry, and how's the heart today?"


Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."
