When night was raven dark
And atmosphere a-chill
How frozen cold my heart!
Much blacker still.
I yearned for light of day
I pined for warmth of sun
Could love e'er come my way
And overcome?

Then brilliant the sky
And radiant Your face
How the dark despised
Your gift of grace!
You took my hand in Yours
And wrapped me in Your love
Standing in Your courts
I found enough!

Now sweet the sound of praise
And strong Your arms to bear
All for love; always
My burdens share!
That I would have no fear
And stand up to all my foes
The way before me clear
There I will go!

Soon glorious the sight
And wondrous to survey
No shadows in the night
'Tis ever day!
Once faith, I'll see You stand
My Saviour, august
King, Redeemer, Lamb
Victorious!
