Have you ever felt as though you were “As dry as last year’s bird nest?” I vividly recall one day when this was not true concerning me. You get this sense of emptiness in spite of reading the scriptures, attempting to pray and engaging in any ritual you may have heard that is the equivalent of advertisements of quick weight loss. What to do?

Admit it and go on. We are not called to serve Jesus only when we feel good. Very little would be accomplished if we only served in whatever capacity when we happen to feel good.

Noted and gifted preacher, Gardener Taylor now ninety three years along stated: “I believe that dry times are preparation for the flood time. For if winter comes then spring is surely on its way. Our richest spiritual experiences follow those times of aridity.”

We must learn to understand that truth is not dependent on feelings alone, but on clear statements of fact in God’s Word and then keep on. Elijah the grand prophet of the Old Testament is a case in point. Even though he was as dry as a ham bone that had lay on the heap for a year, he was in fact used by God as an encouragement to you and me. Stay at it; the spring time of the Spirit of Christ is coming.

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
