Darrell Case, a longtime friend who works seriously in prison ministry is also an author. On his business card he notes that he is a Wordsmith. The idea is that of an artist who uses words as a painter would use paint with many different hues etc. The wordsmith uses words with nuances to create a mental picture in the mind of the reader or hearer.

Were I a Raphael with words I would paint a masterpiece for today’s article. Being more of a clodsmith I will simply point out something amiss in our way of dealing with yesterday. The best thing about yesterday is that we don’t live there anymore. We live in today and today is made better by looking forward to the future God has laid up for us.

To fully enjoy today and our future we must learn to use biblical truth and that involves the use of words. Will you agree that we should learn to get over mistakes? Certainly. We will get over mistakes when we begin using another word for mistake. I checked my search engine for the world’s most famous version and the word mistake is not in it, either Old or New Testament. The correct word, sin, is used 394 times.

It is harder to admit to sin than to own a mistake, but we make true progress in life when we deal with sin through Christ as prescribed in the Bible. Keep in mind this saying using the correct word: “Your past sins are meant to guide you, not define you.” Mistakes are always there while sin is removed from the books when God gets in the picture. Hebrews 10:17 “And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.”
