Today rose early and started well
refreshed and ready to roll -
and with a spring, skip and hop
began the brisk morning stroll.

Until, that is, Today realized
that he was not traveling alone -
because Yesterday and Tomorrow
just insisted on coming along.

Yesterday shared details, of
past regrets, failures and sin -
while Tomorrow sure was anxious
about what was around every bin.

Because Today could feel his energy
was quickly fading away –
he knew he must act quickly if
this day was going to be saved.

So he interrupted Yesterday from
his lamenting over the past –
and told Tomorrow to quit jumping
at every shadow cast.

Today made clear they could not stay
in this day-room built for one –
explaining the one-day limit
for their moment in the sun.

Because Yesterday must live where
all Yesterdays remain –
and Tomorrow can’t come early
cannot catch an early train.

And so they bid a fond farewell
and took their place in line –
and, the spring returning to his step,
Today, once more, felt fine!
