“No Substitutes For Christ”

Isaiah 42:5-8 says, “Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it; and spirit to them that walk there in: I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people for a light of the gentiles; to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images”.

There are no substitutes for Christ. The world in which we live in is in search for the truth. A lot of college students are in school trying to find themselves so they wind up getting into occults. Muslims go in search for a god name Allah who does not exist. Buddhists worship a statue that is man made. People in third world nations like India are getting into all sorts of witchcraft.

People are looking for something greater, a higher power. Man has a void in himself and is trying to find out what it is as well as who he is. Man sometimes experiments with worldly pleasures and ends up letting those “pleasures” control his life. The end result is a life out of control and/or influenced by demons. Sometimes death occurs. Young women may seek a man to fulfill the void in their lives because they feel lonely. It is true that we have more issues affecting us today than our parents did years ago. As time goes by, the darker the world becomes. The reality is that people are trying to live a life without Christ. You cannot live in a dark world without Christ and expect to succeed. The forces of evil are oppressing and depressing the earth. Man is trying to live life all on his own but he is spiritually blind.

Job 14:1 says, “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble”. When we depart from God we get into trouble. That is why we need to be born again and stay in the word. So man needs to understand that there are no substitutes for Christ. The bible is our instructions manual for life. When we get out of it we have problems. Jesus said ye shall find rest unto your souls (Matthew 11:29). His yoke is easy and his burden is light (v30). The Lord created us to be God-dependent not independent. Christ is your fulfillment, satisfaction and peace. When you choose Christ you choose victory. There are no substitutes for Christ. Amen.
