“Is Your Heart In Christ?”

The word of God in 1 Samuel 16:4 says and Samuel did that which the Lord spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming and said, comest thou peaceably? and he said peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the Lord: sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice; and he sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice, and he sanctified Jesse and his sons and called them to the sacrifice. And it came to pass when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, surely the Lord`s anointed is before him, But the Lord said unto Samuel. Look not on his countenance or on the height of his stature, because I have refused him: for the lord seeth not as man seeth; for a man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

I believe the question that God is asking believers today is, is your heart in Christ? God wants to know if we are serious about serving him. He wants to know if we are with him only for the blessings. See, we can say thank you Jesus and Praise ya Jesus all we want but God knows us. We can sing songs all day long and act spiritual but God knows us. While man looks on the outer appearance God is looking at the heart. He examines our motives daily to see why we are doing what we`re doing. I believe that God may allow some situations that may be tough to see what we are going to do. Will we depart the faith or will we stay with him? The Lord`s main concern is that we stay with him no matter what happens.

In Romans 8:35, Apostle Paul says who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress or persecution, or famine, or nakedness or peril or sword? God did not save us only so he could bless us. I feel that he saved us so we could bless him by telling the world about the blood of Jesus. There is nothing wrong with being blessed but that should not be our primary motive. We can remain expectant in our requests but they should not replace God. Whether God blesses me with financial/material abundance or not, my heart stays with God.

Some people get saved for the wrong reasons and you can tell because they stop reading their bibles and they stop praying when they do not get what they want from God. Although we are not perfect, and I am not making excuses, how we live determines whether or not our heart is in Christ. Jesus said wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them (Matthew 7:20). Proverbs 23:7 says “For as he thinketh in his heart so is he, eat and drink saith he to thee but his heart is not with thee”.

In essence, the heart of man can determine his salvation. God knows all and sees all. We can fool man but not God. The question we must answer is if God does not give us all of what we petition him, will we still serve him? Will Christ still be the head of our lives? For Christ I live, for Christ I die. Amen.
