The Reliability Of Faith

In times of trouble, may the LORD answer your cry.
May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm.

--Psalms 20:1 (NLT)

Ali Mohammad, an 11 year old boy was now in his 28th day in the American compound in Iraq. He was found severely injured during an American Army patrol in Baghdad. Ali was the only member of his extended family to survive an attack of the Republican Guard in search of people it felt too friendly to the Coalition invaders.

Through an Arabic interpreter, Ali made it clear be wanted to go live in the United States after receiving medical assistance from Army doctors and having made friends with member of the American soldiers who visited him daily during his operations and recovery periods. However, Ali was informed that his wish was impossible. He was a child, an Iraqi citizen nor did he have a sponsor to care for him. He was also told that the Iraqi government would never let him leave anyway.

Despite having been told the negatives, Ali insisted, “I’m going to America someday soon.” He kept calmly stating that he would go to America until it actually came about nearly fourteen months later on his 13th birthday. It required much negotiating but Ali remained firm in his belief that he would have his wish.

Can we Christians learn something from Ali faith? Ali believed he would ultimately be allowed to leave his native land to be among the friends he had made against all supposed odds. He seemed to recognize that faith can overcome any odds once the sights are set and focused on the things of God and not of humanity.


Prayer: Lord, when the future does not appear bright remind us that with You we can always
live in faith in You one day at a time.
