It's the age-old, twenty-first century tale of boy meets girl, and it goes something like this.

Boy meets girl. Boy requests to be friend on Facebook to girl. Boy texts girl. Boy emails girl. Boy texts girl. Boy asks girl's best friend about girl. Boy follows girl on Twitter. Boy talks to his best friend about girl. Boy texts girl. Boy sees girl at church. Boy Facebook chats girl. Boy writes song or poem for girl (that she will never hear or read). Boy texts girl. Boy checks Linked In, Four Square, and Pintrest for girls' account, nothin'. Boy asks girl's sister about girl. Boy gives up on girl thinking, "I was never that into her anyway."

Oh, how fairytales and romance have changed from knights in shiny-armor to "How was your day" texts and Facebook befriending. Church single groups are diminishing because there is no longer a need to go to a single group to find out who is single, there are status' for things of that nature.

A girl's likes and dislike are no longer asked because by the time a first date has survived the tortures of modern media communcation, the guy has created flash cards and memorizing schedules for the girls Facebook page. On one side of the flash card, "Favorite Music", on the other side, a copy and paste of what her Facebook page states as her favorite music. He makes sure that they include at least one of the following: Chris Tomlin, Hillsong, David Crowder, or the general "Worship".

The memorizing schedules that men set for themselves are not usually intentiional, but it's a force of nature that makes them take notes on what they noted as "funny" in their newest Twitter update or made them "ROTFL" beneath the newest picture of their best friend (Roll on the floor laughing).

The picture surfing is always interesting for a man when he is interested in a girl. First, he will be on ESPN reading about his favorite college team, and the next thing he knows he is cruising through the 2,409 pictures of his new fling. He doesn't remember how he got to his favorite picture of the 2,409 pictures, but he finds him self staring with a smirk that won't seem to wipe off.

Men have mastered how to develop a crush on a girl. It may seem all-to-similar to stalking, but it's the social norm in this day and age of social media. With developing a crush down pat, guys seem to have a hard time asking the girl on an actual date. So here are a few tips.



Ask her out. Do you want to know how to ask out a girl? Just do it. Yes, like on a real date. No, not in a vague way like, "Hey, I'm hanging out with all of my friends and there's seven other girls here, want to join?".
Ask her out on a real date. Make it clear, be intentional.
Be bold. All things worth pursuing are worth the rejection. In the social media day and age, men are no longer knights in the dating real, we are more like a soft kitten with blue eyes. Cute but can't really do much.
Be creative and traditional. Take her flowers. Take her to a nice place to eat, but add one twist that she's not expecting (this twist does not envolve lips).
Talk about it. At the end of the date, at the beginning of a date, somewhere in the date talk about where you are at, what you are hoping for.
Don't let rejection scare you. We think that as men, we can never be rejected. True men get rejected often because they are bold enough to be vulerable. Real men fail. Real men mess up. So man up and fail at something.
Guard your heart. Allow God to be your first priority. Allow God to move in the relationship. He could lead you towards marriage. He could lead you towards rejection. He is a shepard leading sheep, and trust me, us men are as dumb as sheep when it comes to dating, and He leads us to green pastures not off a cliff.
And ladies, take it easy on them, they are much more like soft kittens than the ninjas they pretend to be.
