Salt Of The earth

You are the salt of the earth…light of the world.

--Matthew 5:13-14 (NLT)


Joline Davis, though 22 years old, had the need to always be right. This need to be right was extremely important—about anything discussed among any group of people. All of this changed when her friend, Anna Asnson, whom Joline gretly admired challenged her notions about being right in all things.

While on spring break in the Bahamas, Anna died as a result of an accidental downing as they were scuba driving. Before she died, Anna told Joline in a loving manner that it was far better to be loving, patient and forgiving than it was to be right.

Once she resumed her graduate studies, Jolie came up a fellow student with whom she could not agree with nor he with her. Joline then remembered Anna’s words She then responded to her colleague, “can we still be friends even though we don’t agree?” He looked at Joline in amazement while extending his hand followed by a smile in agreement with Joline’s proposition.

Many years later following a heated debate with a fellow city councilman, Joline said: “since you didn’t support my proposal, I guess I won’t be supporting your zoning proposal”. When her opponent’s prosposal came up for a vot, Joline voted for it saving their community many millions of dollars. After the council meeting, Joline’s opponent later apologized to her for his mean spirited behavior in voting down proposal though it was for the common good.

In both her personal and professional life, Joline has learned that being loving, patient and forgiving has been more rewarding and self-fulfilling than being right. Daily she feel she is working within God’s plan with her neighbors.

Prayer: Almighty Father help me from this day forward to be loving, patient and forgiving and to
experience its life enhancing power. Amen
