DON’T QUIT!
Why do you cry to me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward (Exodus 14:15) As human beings, we sometimes face situations that cast a shadow on our path and present the picture of a bleak future. The tendency at this point is to quit; many lament their fate until their heads are bowed break down. The truth is, such people have not come to grips with the fact that no real satisfaction comes to anyone in life who has not first overcome obstacles. To be a winner, you must contend with and triumph over adversities.

The children of Israel had just been delivered from the bondage of Egypt. It was sweet freedom after 430 years of affliction in a foreign land. God was taking them to the land He had promised their fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But here they were at the Red Sea, shut in. The enemies were closing on them from behind, yet there was no escape route in front. At this time the people turned against their leader Moses. They were at the verge of giving up? But wait a minute quitting never makes a winner” Moses seemed to be saying.

Winston Chunchill said, “It is not the critic who counts, nor the man who points out how the strong man stumbled or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweet and blood, who strives, valiantly, who comes short again and again, who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least, fails while daring greatly so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat”.

In the words of Booker Washington “I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life, as by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed”. In the face of opposition, Moses was determined to get a solution to seeming insurmountable problem. He was about to quit. Then the Lord gave a word, “Tell the children of Israel to go forward”. What God was saying was, “This is not the time to quit”. “You salvation is just one step away”. And indeed they overcome the obstacle standing on their way as they moved forward. Imagine what would have happened if they had given up one minute earlier.

Now, consider this story. On March 15 1915, the British Navy attacked the Turks at the Dardanelles. There was a terrific naval barrage from guns on the shore. Their ships had been sunk, and finally, at noon, the British Navy withdrew never to take that point during the engagement. What they did not know was that the Turks had only sixty seconds of ammunition left and at that very moment were preparing to surrender. Had the British Navy been persistent and continued to press the battle, they would have take the Dardanelles, split the enemy forces, closed the war years earlier, and saved millions of lives.

Robert Schuller once said, “When faced with a mountain, I will not quit! I will keep on striving until I climb over, find a pass through tunnel underneath or simply stay and turn the mountain into a gold mine with God’s help”.

Do not give up on yourself. Do not give up on that worthwhile project just because things are not working out fine. Someone said. “We rate success by what people finish, not by what they start. People do not fail, they just quit too easily” you need God to help you hang on in the face of all odds.
