For anyone who missed my original post, You Are What You Eat, I will take a moment to recap the details of it (I encourage you to read the entire article by scrolling down or viewing the archives). I discussed last week the importance of surrounding yourself around people you respect for the accomplishments they make in life. These would be the same individuals who support your dreams, and create positive dreams of their own.

I came up with the title of the post based on how the foods you eat, both healthy and unhealthy, affect your body. The healthier you eat the better you look and feel. Well, the same applies to the people you surround yourself around, your inner circle. We are all products of our immediate environments. The things that comprise your environment will aid in shaping who you are as a person; the good…the bad…and the ugly. Now, I don’t like speaking for no one but myself; however, I can confidently say that the people who are CLOSE to me all want the good. I absolutely will not allow people to get that close to me, my inner circle, unless they expect, demand, and strive for the same. These people support me through it all, and know and understand where I am in life, and I the same for them.

So if you’re wondering why I emphasized the word ‘CLOSE’, it’s because that word carries a lot of clout with me. I define this individual as someone I could confidently talk to without saying, “and don’t tell anyone what I just told you.” This person is confident in their faith walk, and is spiritually grounded. I could trust my children with these people, and wouldn’t worry for a second what they were exposing my children to. These people are prayer warriors; they are in constant prayer for me without me having to specifically tell them the worries of my heart…they just know. These individuals don’t gain anything from my failures, only my successes. And most importantly, you can identify from the life they live, not by what they say, that God is the head of their households. Now, based on the clarification of the word ‘CLOSE’ that I just provided, it shouldn’t surprise you to hear that I can count on one hand the individuals who fit that mold in my life. This doesn’t mean that they are the only people I talk to. What it does mean it that I am very cautious and disciplined in who I “let in”. I don’t have time to fight unnecessary battles that consist of people talking about you behind your back, or telling someone else something that was told to them in confidence.

Now, for anyone that actually took my advice last week and wrote down all of their friends, and how they are associated to you, take that list and use it to discover those who are ‘CLOSE’ to you. Your list will probably be narrowed by at least 90%. The ones that are left…your inner circle…your ‘CLOSE’ relationships, take time to focus on them. What they bring into your life, and you in theirs. These people are the ones who will help you conquer your fears and reach a life of prosperity, purpose, and perseverance.

With that being said, I am going to stay on this subject for my post next week as well because I would like to discuss what His living Word says about friendships/relationships. Until then remember, we are all destined for GREAT things.

“A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray” Proverbs 12:26
