I was driving down the road today, when a thought of Michael Jackson popped in my head. Now, that probably doesn’t surprise anyone considering that the Conrad Murray trial is being talked about on every major news network day-after-day. However, my thoughts were not driven in that direction; I have my own opinion on whether or not I think the good doctor is guilty or not; I don’t need a jury to confirm that for me. Instead, I was consumed with feelings of concern for the pain that Michael Jackson must have been going through prior to his death; not physically, but mentally, emotionally, and most of all, spiritually. So much going on that he had to camouflage his pain through medication. It must have felt a little like being sentenced to life with no parole; a prisoner in your own body.

Speaking of prisoner, I also read an article today that was discussing Michael Vick’s incarceration. HOW SAD…; not because it was Michael Vick, but because it was one of God’s talented children allowing temptations, greed, and power to dig his grave.

In an article written by Seth Wickersham of ESPN The Magazine, Michael Vick asks, “Why me”? That's the thought that kept racing through his mind. He can't figure out why he landed such a stiff sentence. Twenty-three months in prison for dogfighting? None of the other three defendants in his case got as much time. Why me? He begins to keep a journal, to chronicle it all, to see whether putting it on the page will help him make sense of what his life has become -- a life in prison that everyone but him believes he deserves. "I felt like the law didn't apply to me," Vick would later say.

Answer this for me…WHY? Why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we put ourselves through trials like this? And we always regret it…problem is, the regret comes after the offense. Let me tell you why…let me tell you what happened to Michael Vick. He had fame, fortune, wealth, and status, but it wasn’t enough because he didn’t have an intimate relationship with God. DID YOU HEAR ME CORRECTLY? I didn’t say he didn’t believe in God…HE DIDN’T HAVE AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. He did not trust in God to guide his every footstep. He may have believed in God, but he served himself. His soul was incarcerated long before he physically was.

Here’s the good news. We may be spiritually incarcerated now, but we have the best defense attorney available, and He has never lost a case. The bible says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.”Romans 8:1-2 Simply put, there is no sin that God will not forgive. Trust me on that…I’m a living witness.

Instead of living life with no parole, live an abundant life through Jesus Christ.
