Larry Lilly's Letter October 25, 2011
Early Monday morning I received many responses from my article sent for Monday on Sunday evening. One was from a server in the INDY area stating that delivery was refused due to "abusive language." I thought that just perhaps the Great Blonde had got her fingers into the mix. Such was not the case.
As near as I could find out the particular client had the email system set to reject any mail with abusive language. I knew I was not mad when I wrote or sent the piece. It came down to the word in the title, Nonagenarian. The person responsible for this is probably sixteen or works in a government program that operates on the principle that anyone over sixty five is obscene. At least for Medicare purposes.
Most of the comments were very nice and encouraged me to keep writing as I will get it right at least one time before my departure. In response to one particularly kind word I shared my plans for the day which included a planned visit with our churches own Nonagenarian. I share this with you in order for you to pray with knowledge for me and perhaps even conjure up a little sympathy. I must state that my Colts cheated on Sunday and brought in a gaggle of players from the School for Blind Females.
"Thanks for the note. I am visiting with Richard later today and even when he is less than lucid he is an inspiration. I know he will mention how sad he is for me, seeing as I wear a Colt tie on many Sundays. He will sit in his expensive Bear's chair wearing his Bear's hat and Bear's sweat shirt #34, while his Bear's leather jacket is clearly visible on a hook. His sympathy will just ooze toward me. Please pray for my visit of compassion with an ornery nonagenarian."
The visit was worse than I expected. Richard offered me one of his heart pills. The offer also contained several black patches of assorted sizes. With a tear being forced down his leathery cheek he offered that the patches could be used to cover different Colts insignia on clothing. He also had a blank license plate painted black to cover the Colts Horseshoe on my front tag. He is a very thoughtful man. I can only imagine his compassion when he was only an Octogenarian.
To top off the joy he let me read a birthday card sent to him and signed by Walter Payton. This was back in 1990 upon Richard's becoming a Septuagenarian. (Nothing to do with Alexandria). Finally my aged friend called for his daughter to "fix our grieving pastor a nice cup of hot tea." He implied that Colt's fans are so sapped of strength as to be unable to handle strong coffee. At least for a while.
You can see that this nonagenarian's mind is lucid. I don't really know what to say about his heart of compassion.
Genesis 24:1 "And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things."
