It takes much more than wishes
Or just a Wedding Day
For “Happy Ever Afters”
To never go away

It takes a love that’s patient
That’s generous and kind
To all the faults in others
It chooses to be blind

It will not boast of triumphs
Insist it has its way
It’s never quick to anger
But seeks the better way

It does not keep a tally
Of injuries and slights
It stops its ears to spiteful words
For truth and grace it fights

Such love held like a shield
Stops every fiery dart
Protects from all the forces that
Would tear two lives apart

So hunt down joy and blessing
Do all to make love grow
Through each and every day you share
Let such love always show
