Pentecost wasn’t free – it cost the disciples to tell the good news about salvation in Jesus Christ, rather than in offerings and works.

The angry Jews jailed Peter and John, later they beat the apostles and Stephen was stoned for the power of the good news.

The legalists didn’t want to change their works, so the miracles were denied and the believers slandered.

James was killed and lay people were imprisoned – bringing hope and healing had a price.

Saul went from being a respected leader of Israel, to a despised outcast hated by his own countrymen.

The Christians were insulted as a sect that disturbed the peace and stability of society.

Most of the scholars and thinkers rejected the blessings and grace from heaven to cling to their traditions.

Yes, Pentecost had a price, it wasn’t all fun and play. Like the Master, the followers have pain and sacrifice.

But Paul said what he gave up was rubbish compared to the surpassing glory of knowing Christ Jesus.
