“Nineveh”

“Nineveh”

Within my recent readings in the Word, I have to admit, I had a bit of a laugh when I was reading through in the Prophecy of Jonah. Back in his time, things were not going well in term of the people’s obedience and receiving his prophetic gifting from God has revealed that he really need it to sort things out, meaning God was busy sorting things out through Jonah. But still, it made me smile....can you imagine when God Told Jonah...”Listen Jonah, I want you to go to Nineveh, and I want you to tell the people there to repent from their sins and tell them to obey Me.”... Jonah kind of didn’t get the message at first time and he actually, casually declined the instruction...”Ahhh, sorry Lord, no can do, I just bought my ticket to Tarshish, I am out of here...I am about to leave on the boat, can’t you see? Send somebody else please and we catch up later, ok?”

Poor prophet, he didn’t know what was coming, in-fact it had to be a storm and a giant whale to make him realize where he was suppose to go at the first place...Thinking through on the details rather, where Jonah was when he was told to leave to Nineveh, he was about a good 1000 km’s away. Transport must have been an issue that time plus the effort, so he rather dodged the trip and decided to run away from God. But as you know, eventually he did get there and after he has spoken to the people, they have changed and the so much awaited punishment by Jonah from God did not happened neither. And he was not happy about it either. In-fact he took on God with a big complaint as to why the people did not got punished.

But besides smiling on this beautiful story, there were so much lessons for me to learn out of it.

“Nineveh”

It can happen to any of us that one day we need to go to “Nineveh” or to follow a Call which is so out of our reach (we think) and therefore we let it go by. Or, we are actually running away from God instead of obeying Him. Perhaps till we find ourselves in a storm or in a belly of a giant fish we would not understand the Call properly. And yes by this time we would admit that we should have listened at the first time...

And my other lesson within the same story was, that once we have obeyed to follow and carry out a specific Call, it is never up to us to decide and judge the outcome of that Call. God’s Plans are so much bigger than we can think of and/or understand.

Long as we are part of His Plans through our faith in Him.

Don’t be afraid of Nineveh, even if it’s seems being so far away. Make the trip and let Him guide you and to judge the rest.
