Dependence Celebration


I am very thankful for the privilege God has given me to live in such a great country as the United States of America, and very grateful for those heroes who defend the freedom we enjoy in our land. I can worship freely, work where I choose, and say what I want to say without fear of arrest and abuse.


In a society like ours, we tend to value the independent, the self-sufficient, the new and fresh. I suspect that is because of our national history, when our forefathers cast off the old regime of British rule establishing a new rule of law. It is sometimes unfashionable to embrace old ideals and admit we cannot do everything alone. Whether or not it is popular, we must understand the facts. We cannot free ourselves from the bondages of our sins. We cannot deflect the consequences those sins have on our lives. We cannot save ourselves from eternal judgment those sins bring on us. We need a Savior...we need Jesus.


Today, as we celebrate our national independence, I can't help but think that I can not survive living independently. I am so dependent on my God. He watches over me carefully, making sure every detail is supplied. He supplies every breath, every heartbeat, every need I have. I do not want to make my own paths or build my own fortune. I will not choose my own will over His perfect plans. Today, I celebrate my dependence on the Lord. Let the rejoicing begin!
