We are in the dying minutes of a soccer match and currently the scores are 2-1 in favor of the opposition. All our offensive tactics are being countered by the defense of the opposition. I see the coach getting up. He is now making some changes and he decides to put in a striker, his son and to my surprise I am being substituted. Upset about the coach's decision, I walk out and take the bench. We are now in injury time and I see the coach's son dash forward with the ball in lightning speed and takes a shot and its the equaliser, its 2-2! The opposition quickly restarts the game and immediately the coach's son charges and intercepts and takes a shot from a distance and its another goal! I don't believe what am seeing, its 3-2. The opposing team restarts the ball and before long the ref blows the whistle. And we win the game thanks to an outstanding performance from the coach's son who practicly did all the hard work.
What is the Biblical implication?
When it seemed like all was lost, when we were dead, God acted in love by sending his son Jesus and sacrificed him by making him die a death that was meant for me. Jesus came in as a substitute for you and me. Jesus did what we couldn't do. He scored the winning goal. Jesus died to save you from your sin and from the wrath to come and now he continually knocks on the door of your heart wanting to come in and dwell in it. Even as we are in injury time many people still reject this Almighty saviour. Will you continue rejecting this free offer of Hope? I speak as a person who has experienced the love of God, a person who has experienced the life changing effects of the blood of Jesus. I speak as a person who has true hope of eternal bliss. I plead with you. Whoever you may be, which ever religion you are, Jesus paid the full penalty for you. Please go to Jesus in repentance and faith for the forgiveness of all your sins. God will give you a new heart. Go to Him now before the ref blows the whistle, before the Trumpet blast .
