Lord, You have searched me
   I am not worthy.
How could I speak
   Your wonderous name?
 
Still You have mercy
   Your grace is for me.
But without strength
   to sing of my gain.
 
So carve me out of fire,
   so holy and much higher;
      burn in me the power
         to praise Your name.
This is my desire,
   just like David's lyre;
      just a holy hour
         to sing of Your fame.
 
Then comes the hour,
   along with Your power.
In Spirit and Truth
   praising Your good name.
 
Just as it is true,
   it is so sweet.
I only give to You
   what You've given to me.
 
'Cause You carved me out of fire,
   much holy and much higher;
      You burned in me the power
         to praise Your name.
I have my desire,
   I'm like David's lyre;
      give me more than just an hour
         to sing Your fame.

How can we think we are strong enough to praise the Lord as He is due when we are a fallen creature? Is it not true that when we are so enabled, it is by His Spirit and we are only giving back to Him what He has given us, to include the words we compose because even our natural talent came from Him?
