Finishing the Course

II Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my
course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a
crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall
give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that
love his appearing.” (KJV)

I watched the one-hundredth Indy race.
The cars all set a blistering pace.
but one stood out above them all,
Until he hit the last corner’s wall.

He had come from far behind.
The race had been a grueling grind.
With just one corner left to turn,
It suddenly ended in, “crash-n-burn.”

He barely slid past the finish line.
This was for sure not by design.
Just one moment’s loss of focus,
Winning disappeared like hocus-pocus.

One’s life can also end that way,
After running hard both night and day.
We stumble before we cross the line.
What’s gone before falls in decline.

For just one moment our guard is down.
Satan attacks and we are drown.
Just one glitch in our armor,
And rewards in heaven are no more.
