The Seeker and the Preacher

Listening to the preacher,
I heard him say,
you really must be saved
and you should do it today.

But I don’t like what I heard,
he said it came from
God’s Own Word; but to me
it seems a bit absurd.

He said I must confess
my sin and then ask
Jesus to come into
my life, and to trust in Him.

That’s just uncomfortable.
I know there is somewhere
a way I can be saved
without this bowing down
and behaving like a slave.

Just the other day
I saw a Church Billboard
Who gives it’s name as,
“Going to Heaven Your Way”
“We give you options
from our Bible Buffet.”

I think I’d like that better
because, don’t you see,
lots of things have changed
since antiquity?

We are much more intelligent
than they were in times of old,
why we even have airplanes
and can cure the common cold.
Well, we have airplanes anyway.

But, blood and the Cross
and the thoughts about sin;
and the preacher saying
that I must ask Jesus in
to live in my life
and then, must live
my life for Him;
it is just a bit much
and I know there is
another way to get to God
and Heaven.

What is that you say?

I said, Jesus said,
“I am THE Way, THE Truth, and THE Life,
and NO person comes to the Father,
BUT BY ME.”

Well that is sort of narrow,
that’s how it seems to me;
I want to build my own way
to Heaven don’t you see?

“Broad is the way to destruction,
and narrow is the way to life”
and when the end time comes
you’ll want to have chosen right.
