Prayers
Praying to know God’s Power
Paul’s prayer for the Christians at Ephesus is greatly detailed. Paul wants them to know about God’s power not just the power of salvation but the awesome power that was demonstrated when God raised Jesus from the dead. Here’s how Paul prayed; the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; That you may know…
1. What is the hope of His calling
2. And what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints
3. And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead (Eph.1:18-20)
Paul doesn’t hold back powerful information and revelation that every Christian needs to know. Paul prayed that they come to know Jesus by spiritual wisdom and revelation, that they may know His calling in their lives, the inheritance in the saints and now God’s power on two level’s salvation and resurrection power.
Let me tell you how many brick walls I encountered in my Christian walk. When Pastors ask me what is my calling I tell them I’ve been called to preach and teach God’s word. Then they ask what do I teach? I say apart from the basics listed in Hebrews chapter 6. I teach about healing, miracles, baptism in the Holy Ghost, Dreams and visions, Demonology, about Angels, heaven, hell and so much more… with their eyes wide open and a look of insecurity and inadequacies they say, well what do you think is important?
I said what do you mean? They would say, salvation is important, I immediately knew he’s a salvation focused Pastor that doesn’t talk about other topics. I said what’s important is that we obey God and if God leads us to teach a specific topic then we should be sensitive and obedient to carry it out. Here’s why, God knows better than we do what the people we are sent to minister to needs to hear.
Let me tell you ministers something that bible college doesn’t teach you. Jesus came to the earth to demonstrate how we should minister. Jesus explained that whatever the Father showed Him that’s what He would do. See John 5:19-20. Jesus could not do any miracle unless He was directed to while He was on the earth. Jesus modeled what a powerful minister needs to do—listen to the Father in heaven. Then Jesus told His disciple’s greater works you will do because He’s going back to the Father in heaven. See John 14:12.
Understanding God’s Power
I gave you that testimony to tell you I’m on the same page with Paul. I’m going to let you have it. Two days ago as I was washing my daughters wash cloth the Holy Spirit told me to break down God’s power in detail for you guys and teach you the different dimensions of His power and teach you how to pray for the power of God to come upon you for ministry and other things God will have you do. So with that said, let’s go on a biblical journey with Jesus, and I will inject some testimony also. I may need to do 2 or 3 parts to this topic okay. So follow along closely if you desire to know how this works.
Power Defined
The word Power mentioned the first time by Paul in his prayer is Dunamis #1411; which is force; Specially miraculous power (a miracle itself).(Eph.1:20)
The words Mighty Power mentioned the second time is (ISCUS –Mighty) (Kratos-power) which is might, strength, power and in action as used of God (the strength, kratos, of His) might. (His mighty) power. (Eph.1:20)
The miracle of salvation is not as powerful as the miraculous power demonstrated when God raised Jesus from the dead. Paul said it, I said it, and if you do a careful study in the greek you will see by way of definition that this is true and we must be aware of it. We cannot down-play the powerful resurrection of Jesus Christ. And focus on telling people about salvation only. It’s time that the entire body of Christ step it up a notch.
Paul prayed that we may know His power. Kratos is manifested power, its derived from the root kra-, to perfect, to complete; How important is this definition in the Greek? This information is very important because God completed the miraculous power with Jesus when He raised Him from the dead never to die again.
Let me explain it this way, Lazarus was supernaturally resurrected by Jesus but he had to die again so Lazarus experienced Dunamis power. Jesus will never die again He experienced Iscus-kratos God’s mighty power completely – entirely. When the prophet Elisha, Peter, and Paul prayed for the dead and they came alive. The little boy, Dorcus and the young man that fell out the window all grew old and had to die again. And they will be in the resurrection that will come when the church is raptured up See 1 Thess.4:13-17). Except the little boy, he went with Jesus’ resurrection.
When Jesus was raised from the dead He took with him everyone from Abraham’s time up until He died and rose again See Eph.4:8-11 and Matthew 27:52-54. Paul who wrote about this in Eph.4:8-11 clearly understood the concept of the resurrections and the power pack demonstration that was manifested by God. This is why in His letter to the Christians at Philippi he said, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, If, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead (Phil.3:10-11).
We must also make this proclamation, that we may know Him and the power of His resurrection.
We must pray Father in Jesus’ mighty name allow us to understand the greatness of Your divine power the power that was demonstrated when You raised Jesus from the dead. Hallelujah
In my next article we will discuss the different dimensions of God’s power and how to flow with them.
