Praying for Your Calling

We are still discussing Paul’s prayer that he prayed for the church at Ephesus. Paul said, I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints (Eph.1:18 NAS)

Most Christians don’t know what God called them to do. Let alone they were never instructed properly about Praying for God’s call on their lives. Secondly, they lacked biblical insight about God’s calling on Old and New Testament believers. Well, today we are going to put an end to the ignorance about God’s calling on our lives.

The first thing we need to do is pray this prayer personally starting today. Here’s how you personify it: Father in Jesus’ mighty name, I pray that the eyes of my heart (Human born-again spirit) may be enlightened so I may be sensitive to your divine call on my life, that I may take part in your glorious riches within the inheritance of other believers. Amen

Secondly, after we initially pray for insight to God’s call on our lives we need to continually thank God for what we already requested. So our prayers should switch into thanksgiving prayer. Here’s how we do that: Father I thank you for enlightening my human spirit to understand your calling and the inheritance which you provided for me with your saints. I thank you in Jesus’ name.

We need to be specific with God and not have a long drawn out boring prayer. Jesus mentioned this in Matthew 6:5-8. It’s God’s will for you to pray this. Paul prayed it the believer’s at Ephesus and wrote about it so they may follow his example and pray it for others and every generation is to continue the art of praying for God’s calling until Jesus returns.

How will God reveal His Calling?

Spiritual enlightenment come a number of ways. We need to know this because we cannot limit God or be prejudice about the many ways God will reveal His calling to us. The bible is clear about every manifestation that God brought to every believer in the Old and New Testament. We need to take the time to read it specifically focused on the topic of the Calling of God. It’s a long process but I’m going to make it easy for you to get a head start on your research.

Spiritual Enlightenment may come through:

1. A Dream- Joseph received 2 dreams about his calling as a leader (Gen.37:5-11) Read the article different ways God calls us. It will go into the calling in great detail.
2. A Vision- like Paul received among other believers (Acts 9:1-9) Read the Article on 4 Parts of visions so you may be aware of how God gives them and how to work with them. I clearly walk you through it.
3. By an audible voice- like the little boy Samuel experienced (1 Sam. Chapter 3)
4. By prophecy- like Timothy received (1 Tim.4:14)
5. An Angelic visitation- like Gideon experienced in an open vision (Judges 6:11-24) Read the topic of visions to learn what an open vision is.
6. A witness or conviction in our hearts – like Nehemiah received when God was calling him to build the wall in Jerusalem(Romans 8:14,16/ Nehemiah Chapter 1)

My Testimony

I was born-again Dec.28,1991, immediately I wanted to tell everyone how God changed me. I didn’t know how so I used tracts and sent them to everyone I knew. Then I realized that it would be better to rewrite the tract in a letter to correspond with the people I’m trying to reach with my own style of writing.

Later, after being in a few prayer meetings and hearing and seeing other men praying in unknown tongues I wanted the experience of the baptism of the Holy Spirit I read a little booklet on the topic and received the experience when a brother laid hands on me and prayed just like the book of Acts Chapter 19:1-7 on Sept.2,1992.

Then as I read the bible about the story of Elijah and Elisha, and how Elisha received a double portion of anointing on January 1993 God enlightened my heart about my receiving the gift of laying hands on believers to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. So the brother who had the gift laid hands on me before he left to go back to his country. He asked me if I wanted anything I said a double portion of your anointing we prayed and God confirmed it and I was anointed with the gift and since 1993 till today I laid my hands on more than 30 people for this experience and they spoke with tongues.

In 1993, I was also laying hands on people for divine healing because God trained me through scripture on the topic of miracles, signs, wonders and dreams and visions.

In Dec. 1993, Jesus appeared to me in a vision and I was told to teach His people that’s when I was anointed by Him to teach. The scriptures came alive to me. When I read scripture it’s like reading today’s paper about something that actually happened yesterday. And it’s so surreal to me as if the miracles we read about happened yesterday and that’s just a normal part of a Christians’ lifestyle.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is that God will use a number of ways like Visions, dreams, angelic visitations, inward witness or conviction in your heart to learn about His calling for your life. The bible may come alive to you about a specific calling like a Samuel was called to be a Prophet, Paul a preacher/teacher, Apostle, Philip a Deacon turned into an evangelist, and so on.

So be sensitive to all these areas or avenues that God may choose to convey His calling on your life. And remember it all comes by phases and stages not over-night it took years of training for everyone in scripture as well as in my life to get to where we had to go in the kingdom of God.

The Glorious Inheritance

It’s not financial blessings though it may be a small part of it. Joseph was placed in a position to receive an inheritance in rich fellowship with his brothers and immediate family after many trials and tribulations and was able to enjoy their company. It’s when we obtain new acquaintances and friends (other Christians) that we inherit the glory of God. To fellowship, serve one another and learn about each other’s gifts and callings and other great things.

So I pray that the eyes of your heart will be enlightened, to know what is the hope of His divine calling on your life, in Jesus’ mighty name. God bless you.

In my next article we learn about the different levels of God’s power. We need to pray about it and learn how it works so we can flow with it. It’s very simple to learn it and receive a touch of God’s power to do His will. So don’t panic or be afraid. God wants to reveal it to you.
