These are the bare facts. It's what it looks like from the outside. I am an almost ninety year old widow who for the last fourteen years has lived on a small annuity and Social Security. I've had the usual roster of aches and pains including pancreatic cancer surgery. I look every year of my age. The world has long since counted me out. That's how it really is. Now let me tell you how it seems to me.

Yes, I am old, but now there is the luxury of time. Time to really check out the world and see what life is all about almost from an objective viewpoint. Precious time to sit and think--or just to sit. Time to listen to the chatter of children, the rumblings and ramblings of assorted minds, to read one hour, or four, of any book I want, all accessible from a generous public library or online. To eat and sleep at will, no questions asked, to dream of years gone by: to enjoy the laughter and love all over again. To talk to longtime friends of happenings fifty years ago--all over again. To awake in the morning to bird songs, sunshine and a new day dawning, God's offer of another chance. Time, what a gift!

And then there's the unrestricted freedom to enjoy family and friends and people I haven't yet met. To learn, to love and to enjoy endlessly.

But I saved the best till last. Now I have drawn closer to God though He was never far away. There's time for studying His Book with deeper appreciation and understanding, and freedom to break into spontaneous song and/or prayer. Who knows or cares except our Father? What joyous freedom! My cup does indeed run over. I am privileged to live the Twenty-Third Psalm. I am by the grace of God living in spiritual luxury, and I long ago ran out of words to describe my gratitude. The Lord will have to read my grateful heart.
