Do You Know The Holy Ghost
Do You Understand Its Work

We have the Holy Spirit because of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. It is He that paid the ultimate price for us to have life, life more abundantly, life after death, and life eternal. He redeemed us back to our first state with God that we can live a clean, set apart, holy life of Christ which gave us His Spirit so that we can live again.

Romans 6:19 even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness that the Spirit can come in and dwell.

Paul had not been to Rome although he wished to go in Romans 1:1-16. He felt obligated to this great city because he was the Apostle of Christ to the Gentiles. The church at Rome was composed of both Jews and Gentiles. The book of Romans is a presentation of Paul’s gospel of grace. Paul through a deaconess names Phoebe sent this letter to Rome on her trip there as so many people did. Paul had plans to go but he was apprehensive of trouble and asked for prayers of the Saints in Rome. He deals with the principles more and less with details than his other Epistles. But it met the demands then and now with marvelous success. Here in Chapter 8 sanctification is presented as culmination of justification by faith. We have a duty to live sanctified.

Now the Holy Spirit, Spirit of God, the Spirit of Jehovah, Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost cooperated with God in the Creation of the world and in bringing order out of the chaos in Genesis 1:2. He guided the Prophets in making known the Will of God.

The Holy Spirit hears and speaks. He uses our mouths to say what he pleases. The Holy Spirit by the mouth of David spake in 2 Samuel 23:2 the Spirit of the Lord spake by me and his Word was in my tongue.

Through the Holy Spirit the Will of God was made known to the Prophets and through them to the people. The Holy Spirit helped in many other ways in giving qualities of mind and body needed by man to execute the Will of God.

The office and work of the Holy Spirit are set forth most openly and completely in the New Testament. In the old He came upon men, after Jesus Christ came in the new He came into man and dwell in them again. We know that the Holy Spirit was first breathe into man that caused him to have life, a living soul.

He has a personality.
He Hears and speaks (John 16:13)
He Wills (I Corinthians 12:11)
He has knowledge (I Corinthians 2:11)
He teaches (St. John 14:26)
He makes intercessions for us (Romans 8:26)
He chooses (Acts 15:28)

The Work of the Holy Spirit caused the conception of Jesus (Matthew 1:18). He descended on Jesus in the form of a dove at the Baptism (Matthew 3:16).

It was the Spirit that directed Jesus into the wilderness where He was tempted of the Devil Mark 1:12), (Matthew 4:1), (Luke 4:1).

The entire Ministry of Jesus was under the direction and power of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:18).

Jesus gave a promise to man that they should be baptized in the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:5)

You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit is come upon you (Acts 1:8).

The Holy Spirit came upon them on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2L4).

Jesus said blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven (Matthew 12:31)

The Holy Spirit was to convict the world of sin according to (St. John 16:8), and He when He is come will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness and of judgment. This He did through the Word which He directed the Apostles to preach. Peter sad ye men of Israel “hear these Words’ and as a result of Peter’s sermon the audience was convicted of sin (Acts 2:37).

Jesus in (St. John 14:16-17) told his disciples that the Spirit would abide with them forever! The gift of the Spirit was promised to all who believed in Christ; repented of their sins, and was baptized (Acts 2:38, 5:32). The Holy Spirit helps us bring our work to perfection. The Gift enables us to confirm the Word which we teach and preach. We are to be careful to never take God’s glory and think we did nothing of our self. Jesus was filled with the Holy Ghost while he was yet in the mother’s womb (Luke1:15).

Jesus said He overshadow us when we are filled. For He shall be great in the sight of the Lord and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink, and He shall be filled with the Holy Ghost; even from his mother’s womb. And the Angel answered and said unto her, the Holy Ghost shall come upon thee and the power of the highest shall over shadow thee. And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is a teacher, (Luke 12:12), for the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say. It is a must man be endued with this power.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. He is the only man born in the earth that was, had, were, and is filled. (I John 5:6) it is the Spirit that bear witness because the Spirit is truth. Three bear record in heaven; the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost and these are one. Jude 20, but ye beloved building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.
