Healing

Our story and lives were seemingly nothing more than that of the ordinary middle class American family, no posh lifestyle, average at best but by no means deprived.Most families have hidden stories involving personal trials, family betrayal and hopefully reconciliation and recognized triumph. Little are they ever spoken of often they are covered and buried, hoping to be forgotten.

Some families choose to look ahead and pretend things never happened. Others try to move forward and find themselves continuously looking back. There are different wounds created along the way. Those that are spirit deep, never seeming to heal, they scab over until they break open and bleed again. Then there are those wounds that have the appearance of having healed with visible scars, they are hidden but evidence of a trauma that once was remains.

Our family was no exception. Some of us were affected more than others, some stories known along the way, some that have surfaced later in life, some truths still hidden. Here’s to exposing truth for what it is and the pain that comes with knowing. Here’s to seeking and giving forgiveness because this is necessary for healing.

For all that has been learned on this journey we give thanks to God for carrying us through it all, even when we felt alone, afraid and unworthy. We know that God has a divine purpose for all things he brings us through. Here’s to understanding that purpose, trusting in him completely and releasing all the pain that we covet.

And if this story should help someone, anyone, then much has been gained and may it be for the freedom of all who have been held captive.
