"She is upset again,
Father."

[GRUFFLY PATIENT
VOICE.]
"What NOW;
tell My beloved
she needs to brush
her teeth,
and get to BED."

"She was at her Bible
study, tonight;
they are reading
the Book of Joshua."

[NOD.]
"GOOD;
My precious knows
much too little about
her own HERITAGE."

[GENTLE SIGH.]
"Well......she got very upset
while they were reading
Part 5 and Part 7."

[GRUFF VOICE.]
"JERICHO?
What ABOUT it?
It was about a VICTORY,
of her own PEOPLE!"

[GENTLE SHAKE OF
THE HEAD.]
"No, Father.
Joshua wasn't a victory
to her, at ALL."

"OH?
Then, what WAS it,
praytell?"

[GENTLE CHUCKLE.]
"Well.......Our precious
took great offense to
the part........."
[Sigh.]

the... DONKEYS."

"What DONKEYS?"

[GENTLY PATIENT VOICE.]

SHEEP.........
and, the DONKEYS....
and.....the OXEN."

"The ones in JERICHO?"

"Yes, Father."
[NOD, GENTLY.]
"And........the sheep,
donkeys, and oxen
that belonged to Achan."

"The child of ISRAEL...
who DISOBEYED Me?"

[GENTLE NOD.]

"The ONE who disobeyed
orders.....and took some
of the spoils....of JERICHO?"

[GENTLE NOD.]
"Yes, Father. She wants
to know why all the ANIMALS
had to get slaughtered, too.....
THEY didn't do
nothin'...."

"Are these in YOUR
words, or Our beloved's
words?"

"Hers,
My Father."

"Tell My fair one,
because of sin."

"Yes, but she's already
figured that you would
SAY that, Father. She
says....the little innocent
donkeys, and sheep, and
goats, and oxen....didn't
do anything BAD."

[GRUFF SIGH.]

"Why did THEY HAVE
to DIE, too?"

[GRUFF VOICE.]
"Because I said so."

"My beloved feels that
You should have given
very explicit instructions
about each of the tribes
carrying off all the animals,
and taking care
of them.......since, they'd
be suffering from Separation-Anxiety:
You know, since their
town was being taken over, and all......"

"This is beginning to sound
as if Our beloved would
be most happiest if, all
the sheep, and goats, and
oxen, and donkeys had
been given some sort of
psychological counseling,
with regard to all the
battles going on in their
land."

[GENTLE NOD.]
"Absolutely.
Yes.
That is exactly what
Our beloved was hinting
at, during our last talk."

[GRUFFLY NODDING.]
"Hm, HM.
I SEE."

"Both about Jericho 5:21,
and Jericho 7:24.
They're both much too
full of animal abuse,
and teaching the children
of Israel much too little
about treating cute,
four-footed, and
furry creatures in
a humane manner."

"Does she ever wonder
what happened to them?"

[GENTLE NOD.]
"Yes, Father.
She figures that you
probably sent them all
to Hell, to suffer some
MORE."

[A BURST OF RINGING
LAUGHING ERUPTS THE
COOL QUIETNESS OF
THE HEAVENLY MORNING.
EVEN THE LITTLE BIRDS,
WHICH FLITTED IN AND OUT
THE BUSHES ALIGNING
THE GOLD PATH ALONG
THE FLOWING RIVER
OF LIFE.]

[PAUSE.]
[MORE RINGING LAUGHTER FROM
THE LEFT SIDE OF THE THRONES.]

"What should I tell
her, Father? She's
very UPSET."

[NODDING.]
[MORE NODDING.]
"Don't tell her anything."

"Yes, Father."

"Let her stew over it,
for awhile."

"Yes, Father."

"She needs to learn
how to trust Me."

"Yes, My Father."

"And, learn that everything
her Father and Lord does...
and allows to happen.....
is for the greater Good,
and for His Glory."

[GENTLE NOD.]
"She dislikes platitudes
like that, Father. She
also figured that You
were going to say
something, like that."

[SHAKING HEAD,
IN CONSTERNATION.]
"Do You remember that
moment, when We were
Both deciding whether
Our beloved daughter
should be conceived?"

"Yes, Father.
I do."

[NODDING GRUFFLY.]
"There was that split-
second, when Both of Us
thought that it might
be too much trouble,
in the long run."

"Yes, My Father."

"That Our Relationship
with her would never
be an easy one."

"Yes, Father."

"I'm glad."
[GRUFF SMILE.]
"I'm glad........
We decided to go ahead,
and allow her mother's
womb to conceive, for
the last time."

[GENTLE CHUCKLE.]
"She's a real pip,
isn't she."

[BURST OUT LAUGHING.]
[REACH DOWN TO PET
ONE OF THE FREE-ROAMING SHEEP
THAT GRACE THE GOLDEN HALLWAY OF
THE THRONE ROOM.]
"I wouldn't have her,
any other
way."

And
Joshua
and all Israel
with him
took Achan....and the
silver and the
mantle and
the bar of gold, and
his sons and
daughters,
and his oxen
and asses
and sheep.........
and all Israel stoned
him with stones;
they burned them
with fire,
and stoned them
with stones.
