For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same [matter]. And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Since the beginning Satan has foughtlong and hard to pervert the institute of marriage. He knows marriage represents holiness, responsibility, and covenant…all characteristics of our God. The bible is very clear about the structure and duties of this union ordained by our Father. It is spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical.

When a male and female is joined together in matrimony a spiritual transformation is immediately established. It is of such importance that God refuses man the ability to “put it asunder.” We have all seen or heard of mutations in the natural world. The outcome is never good. Health is jeopardized, mentality is tortured, and death comes quickly. Only when the two are separated through operation can there be a chance of survival. So, how can two fleshly things become one without destroying one another? It is only possible through the divine institution of marriage. The relationship itself is a form of worship (a profound respect or reverence) that possesses a depth the natural mind can’t fully understand. God is spirit, and those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit (scripture). God is divine, and because it is God who created marriage, it too is divine. It is earthy as well as heavenly. A carnal mind can understand earthly things to a certain degree, but it is impossible to be carnally minded and understand the things of the spirit (scripture). Christ is the only key that can unlock the understanding to things of divine origin.

Two minds working together under the influence of God’s Word have always been better than one. Jesus sent His followers out in twos (Luke 10:1), the Holy Ghost commanded two preachers to work and travel together (Acts 13:2-4), and Solomon inspires us to be in the multitude of counselors for protection (Proverbs 11:14). The bible is full of examples of when and why combining likeminded thoughts produce rewards. A husband and wife is a force of knowledge (knowing what to do), wisdom (knowing how to do), and efficiency.

Being able to receive and give support in times of stress is far more precious than deaf, dumb, and blind idols.God created marriage to be a support system. The challenges of everyday life can wear and tear on your passions. That pick me up weget from our spouse will run circles around a 6:00 a.m. cup of coffee any day! One can chase a thousand and two put ten thousand to flight (Deuteronomy 32:30). Let’s see a cup of joe do that!

The duties in marriage benefit the family unit in many ways. If we stick to the way God set it up, prosperity ispredestined. The structure has been divinely created. What God has fashioned can never be destroyed. Corruption to the sanctity of marriage has been a chief priority for Satan since the world began, but the enemy can only imitate the work of the Holy One.
