I just saw two Blue Jays outside of my kitchen window. A male and a female. Beautiful! They were gathering twigs, I guess, to build their nest, from God's "Home Depot;" my yard. It reminded me of something I used to do with the kids, when they were little.

In the Spring, I would cut brightly colored yarn into short pieces and we would scatter them in the yard and in the woods around our house. (I knitted so I always had scraps left over.) It was our 'contribution" to Spring! The birds would pick them up and fly off with them and use them in building their nests.

Then, in the Winter, when the leaves were gone from the trees, we would walk around the yard and into the woods and we could see the empty nests in the trees. Sure enough, there were our pieces of yarn woven into the nests! They were so bright you could see them among the twigs.

That little bit of effort we put forth was so rewarding for them, because they knew they had helped the little birds build their nests! Not only that, but the yarn had brightened them and made them even prettier. It was so cool!

Then I started wondering...Will heaven be like that for us? Will one of our "rewards" be that we get to "walk around" and see the things we "contributed" to people's lives that God sent into "our yard?" I hope so! (And I hope, too, that some of my little "God stories," as a friend calls them, are like our little pieces of yarn; and maybe they contribute something to your life...and make it a little brighter...even if it is just for a moment!)
