Carpe Diem

Give us each day our daily bread.
Luke 11:3 (NIV)

Well here it is today again. Today is tomorrow’s yesterday. Today is yesterday’s tomorrow. So what was it you put off till tomorrow which is now today? What was it you said I will do someday which could be today? Have you ever said one day I might just read that Bible? Have you ever said one day I will look into salvation I am still pretty young and healthy and have the world by the tail? I have a question for you, what about today? Phew take a deep breath and pause a minute or two to answer these questions.

Well here it is today again. Hey what’s wrong with starting all those goals today? Have you put off believing and accepting Jesus as your savior? Have you put off confessing your sins and repenting of them? Have you put off baptism to wash away your sins? Do you remember the question Ananias asked Saul after his conversion and he explained what God wanted of Paul? Take a look at Acts 22:14-16: "Then he said: 'The God of our fathers has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth. You will be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard. And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.' I love that question, “now what are you waiting for.” Paul had received the Holy Spirit upon baptism he had spoken to Jesus on the road, and God the Father had sent Paul a message through Ananias. God had a mission for Paul and wanted him to start today. He said what are you waiting for?

Well it is still today. What are you waiting for today is the day God has given us. Today is the day he has given us the bread and the strength we need to accomplish our goals, mission and purpose. Today is the day we should put our best foot forward and ask God to be with us and begin whatever it is we have been putting off. Have you heard God’s call, do you know your purpose and mission? We are not promised tomorrow. I don’t remember much Latin from my seminary days but I do remember “Carpe Diem”, which is commonly known as seize the day. Just a reminder today is the day you have been waiting for seize it and make it the anniversary of a special event in your life.
