“Open my eyes, so that I may see the wonderful truths in your law. I am here on earth for just a little while; do not hide your commands from me. My heart aches with longing; I want to know your judgements at all times." Psalms 119:18-20

I came across a very touching and poignant sentence which read that it was not the nails that held Jesus to the cross but love. This statement says it all.
Love is the only greatest force that can keep a person going in times of agony. It is the greatest feeling far above any other feeling. It is the underlying factor which can endure any hardship, trial, pain and waiting.

There is so much of hype surrounding the special day dedicated to Love. But one wonders whether love is just for a day only. To pour our love in extravagance and make it just a one time celebration or is it a better idea to celebrate love daily, with its simple and precious joys?

I am reminded of a very sentimental line in the famous song – Love Story; “Can love be measured by the hours in a day?.” I think the answer is that the day is not enough to measure love. For it is in the subconscious mind as well in the stages of sleep that love is still kept alive.
Love is what makes people tick, accelerates the heart beats and awakens the senses. Those who have experienced a soul satisfying love have truly known love in its deepest meaning.

Today, there are most who will be lucky enough to celebrate Valentine’s day with the ones they love, to be with them and enjoy the enthralling moments but for some who are far away from their loved ones, it will be the precious memories which will keep the candle of love glowing.
There will be yet others who will silently love and not muster enough courage to express their feelings; the silent heroes and last of all the brave ones who sacrifice their love; this is the love meant to be lauded. Valentine’ s day encompasses them all and greets them with the bouquet of love.

Of course, the highest point of love is the perpetual presence of our Lord with us, where He is alive in the Eucharist. For, it did not end at Calvary, neither did it end at the Resurrection nor at the Ascension. He continues to be with us daily, as our source of strength and life. All we have to do is claim Him for ourselves as our very own. For His love is a never ending Love! It isn’t just for a day. It is forever!

Today on Valentine’s day; how about a date with the Lord, to spend time with Him and express our heartfelt love in abundance?
