In the 21st chapter of Luke Jesus gives a description of the destruction of Jerusalem as well as the end of this world as we know it. Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed in A.D. 70, but the final days of this world are still pending, their date known only to God. When pressed by His disciples for more information, Jesus emphasized that the important thing was to watch and be ready. There is nothing to be gained by guessing, anxiety or worry, just be watching and ready, for "you know not the day nor the hour when the Son of Man shall come." So whether it's tomorrow or a thousand years from now, the bases will all be covered.

Our lives here on earth bear a similarity to that. We have no guarantee of tomorrow. Our life span is as unknown to us as is the end of the world. It would seem, then, that in light of this, we need not guess or fret as to how many hours, days, years, or decades we may have to live. Don't worry about it, just be watchful and ready. The one thing of which we can be sure is that the end of the world and the end of our lives are both certainties. One day there will be no tomorrow in both cases. It would seem to be appropriate for us, then, to live unafraid and watchful on both counts, because in both instances, we will be meeting our Lord.
