The Bowed Knee of Mockery
By Rev. Dean Beaty 1/18/11
Matthew 27:27-28 “Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus
into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of
soldiers. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.” (KJV)
In jest they placed a crown upon the Savior’s head.
Not a crown of gold but of cruel thorns instead.
A scepter too was given but it was just a reed.
They smote Him with the scepter and watched the Savior bleed.
Then a robe of scarlet was flung upon His back.
The back they had just scourged in their vicious mean attack.
They spit into His face. Every mockery they did bring.
They bowed the knee before Him and hailed Him, “Jewish king.”
The last perhaps the worst as they bowed to mock His claim.
To pay for their sins too, is why our Savior came.
As they bowed the knee in jest and mocked Him to His face,
His love was just the same as for all the human race.
Upon the cross He prayed, for their forgiveness too.
“Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”
Even as the nails were driven through His hands,
Their lost soul’s redemption was always in His plans.
We may not curse His name or in their mockery share.
We’re as guilty of His death as though we had been there.
Christ died for our sins too. He bore our guilt and shame.
His blood will cleanse your sin if you’ll call upon His name.
Romans 10:13-14 “For there is no difference between the Jew and
the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (KJV)
