Psalm 119.82

He always comes

“My eyes long to see your promise. When will you comfort me?” [Psalm 119.82 NASB]

David was a man of the word. He loved to read it and he was also thrilled to communicate it by both speaking and singing. David had spent a long time searching the word for an answer to his current predicament, and as a result, his eyes were very sore.

God always rewards the diligent. How do we know this to be true? Before Luke the physician wrote his gospel, he investigated "everything accurately" [Luke 1:3] and, as multitudes have testified, God gave him a very beautiful book to write.

God's promises are always connected to tangible events. For example, both Isaac and Samson were born according to what God had prophesied - and at the right time. This truth is good for our faith as well, for we know and can testify to others when and where God kept His word.

David was seriously desperate to be allied with this number of faith filled believers. To that end there were two actions he desired God to perform - to see with his own eyes the fulfilment of His promise and at the same time to find relief and comfort.

Such are the frequent and fiery assaults of the enemy that we often cry out for God to give us a break. Are you presently here, oh chosen to suffer saint?

A well known phrase, and at the same time an established truth, is that God perfectly understands your situation. He knows when and where your breaking point is - even if you think differently. What then do you do?

Every child of God, like Isaac, is born of faith and the seed of faith is the inheritance of the righteous. Therefore - like Abraham, David and the father of the prodigal - you expect God to come through for you every day.

He will bring both restoration and comfort. How do we know? Ask Abraham; he knew joy and consolation even when elderly. Ask David; he saw all his enemies under his feet and he also saw his kingdom established. Ask the loving and desperate father; he received everything back he thought he had lost.
