Psalm 119.81

He is near to help

“My soul longs for your salvation; I put my hope in your word” [Psalm 119.81 NASB]

When we repeatedly meditate and reflect upon the words and phrases of this Psalm, and at other times listen closely to the conversation of the contemporary Christian, we do not always hear the same expressions used. Why is this?

First of all we have got to put to death every thought of criticism or spiritual superiority. Regardless of shortcomings in our spiritual desires, our standing in righteousness is not ultimately dependent on our own human efforts.

However, it is also true to state that if God's Spirit resides in our inner man, then His desire is always for God and if we are walking in agreement with Him we will truthfully repeat and mean David's words and desires, which were a sense of cleansing from inner defilement and the restoration of what he had lost through following the hard way of the transgressor.

David was weary of waiting and he desperately needed God's help and a hasty deliverance from his many enemies. David steadfastly hoped in God's word even if he could not understand what was happening.
