God closes a door but opens a window. How many times have we used that phrase? We ask Him to show us that window that He has opened for us. But what if that window is there right in front of us but we can’t fit through it? Then what?
Well, we have to figure out why we can’t. We have to change something, we know that but what do we change?
Imagine yourself as a child getting home form school. You get home and the door is locked and you have forgotten your key. Mom and Dad are at work and you need to get in the house. What are you going to do? You walk around the house trying to figure out how to get in. Then you notice a window open. That’s how you’re going to get in. You pop out the screen and push the window open. Then you climb up and try and get in. You have a problem now. You don’t fit through that window. Then you realize that you still have your backpack on. You take it off and right through the window you go. Problem solved.
So what about this window that god has opened for you that you don’t fit in? Many people who look at the window are looking at it with the same eyes that they looked at the closed door with. They have kept the same ideas and issues with them as they stare at it. The problem to get in the window was solved by simply removing the backpack and you were in. If we think of that backpack as our baggage that we carry around with us then there may be the way to get through the window that God has opened for us.
There lies the problem. We can’t get rid of our excess baggage as easily as just taking off a backpack. We have to do more.
Proverbs 29:23 says:
23-Pride brings a person low,
but the lowly in spirit gain honor.
We all have issues and struggles that we deal with from our past. But when we us them as excuses not to get through that window it is then that we problems. God loves the humble. He tells us that pride brings a person low. Aren’t we in a low place if we are allowing our baggage to bring us down and we don’t want to get rid of it?
James 4:6 says:
6-But he gives us more grace.
That is why Scripture says:
“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble"
Many are too proud to look for help to get rid of that old baggage. They may not even see it or they have just become so accustom to it being there that they don’t see the need for it to go. Feeling that that is a part of them that will always be there. They may be right. It may always be there but using it to stop one from getting through that window is not what needs to happen. To be able to look at that baggage and decide how to deal with it can bring about a very humbling effect. For now you have to face the things that you are keeping you back.
God tells us that He shows favor to the humble and gives them Grace. So why not humble yourself and deal with this baggage? We all like to be in someone’s good favor. We all like to feel the Grace of God and the Blessing He give us with that Grace.
If we look around us, God has placed people in our lives to help us get that backpack off our back. We just may not always want to see them. We may not want to hear what they have to say, usually because we know they are right. So now you have to humble yourself and agree openly with them.
And as this happens you grow. You are able to look at that window and realize that you can fit through it with time and trust. How do we know that you can fit through that window?
Psalm 149:4
4-For the LORD takes delight in his people;he crowns the humble with victory.
Your victory is now being able to fit through that window He has opened for you.
